Diversity: A Priceless Profit

Netflix has done more for series production than television networks have in decades. It has also done more for cinema than the film industry itself has achieved in the same period. All of this is due to its promotion and appreciation of diversity.

Several unique and phenomenal productions from various countries have succeeded solely because they had access to technical, logistical, and financial resources, followed by good promotion and significant visibility.

People—whether simple or sophisticated—love dignity, creativity, and excellence.

Today, at last, a Polish programme can be watched and appreciated by someone in Piracicaba (me).Meanwhile, someone in Poland can watch and enjoy a programme co-directed by a piracicabana (Dani Libardi).

Diversity of people brings diversity of ideas.

People want to see themselves represented; they want to see their own experiences reflected in the world and in cultural productions. At the same time, they also want to travel, to explore new worlds, new ideas, new emotions, and new experiences. For some, this is only possible through the screens of a television, computer, or mobile phone.

By fostering, valuing, and giving space to diversity, Netflix is currently able to showcase productions that no other platform can.

Even if the ultimate goal is merely financial profit, diversity still proves to be advantageous. However, it is essential that the goal be more than just financial, as people can tell when they are being deceived and when values are noble, genuine, and truly upheld.

It is evident that, in a world where money is essential even for the most basic dignity, the desire for financial gain cannot be demonised without considering the broader historical context of our species.

Beyond the fact that human beings are the only living creatures on this planet who must pay to exist on it, what truly matters is how this money is earned, how it is distributed, to whom it is accessible, and, ultimately, how it is used and what impact it has.

One of the greatest profits—though certainly not the only one—arising from diversity is cultural wealth, which is, at its core, one of humanity’s greatest assets.

That is why companies like Netflix, at least for now, are so well-regarded by their subscribers. People are even willing—when they have the resources and understand the value—to pay more just to keep things this way: diverse.
